Xcel Gaming – The widget sidebar fix

xcel-gaming-clancmsI am back again with another post about the great Xcel Gaming project called ClanCMS. You can view my previous post by clicking Email admin on registration.

Recently Xcel Gaming released a great update that allows is ClanCMS users to display not only one sidebar column but two. Originally the website cms has a left sidebar for widgets but since many users were asking for another sidebar on the right Xcel Gaming decided to code this addition especially for its users. (Which is way over a thousand now by the way.)

So me being me and having to see things in action I decided to load these files and see how things looked and worked with this update. I had previously played with this ClanCMS due to my previous post mentioned above. (Yeah thanks Johnny, I am looking at it again. :) )

Anyway back on point, I checkout out this addition to find it had some teething problems and I could not stand by and watch users on the official Forum state what issues they were having which could effect the use of this ClanCMS altogether. (I like to help out when I can)

So from my visual inspection I could confirm the issues the current users were having and here is my list:

  • Article Scroller is not centered because of width having been increased to compensate for update
  • Username/tags only displaying one line of text and would simply hide the rest
  • Header image not long enough causing image repeat
  • As standard the banner image was not long enough to support new updated width
  • Header image was short, this caused unfinished look and straight edge to thisimage not being curved
  • Sidebar2 widths were incorrectly set and changed display or did not display right side of update at all
  • The distance between areas from left to right were different due to update

I did take a screen shot of from one of the developers own ClanCMS site to highlight the current update issues being caused:

clancms-user-example-site As you can see I highlighted my list using red circles on the screenshot to display the current issues that users were having.

So I fixed these errors and most of the work carried out was within the CSS file and some minor changes to image header, banner widths and design point locations. So after I had completed the updates I again took a screenshot of my own demo running on my local server to show the development team that these issues had indeed been fixed.

my-clancms-demo-fix As you can see I hightlighted the areas which had been fixed by using green circles this time. All the above list has been corrected and now this great ClanCMS can again be up there with the rest as a professional ClanCMS.

I have posted within an existing thread (under the username/tag Lord Varan) about these issues providing my fixed css file and images so every ClanCMS user can update/overwrite their files and have a far more functional system running. If you want to see the official thread from Xcel Gaming and download the files then direct your browser to Official Right Sidebar Update or you can actually see my post by clicking here. Thanks for the great feedback Jason. I enjoyed fixing the issues and it seems to have helped out a number of websites that were having those layout issues.

I mean their are over 1 thousand downloads now so thats quite allot of sites that were affected by this second right sidebar update.

    Best wishes
